The English Conversation Club in Antioquia is an open academic and social community with no religion, political party or philosophy in particular. We are a practical and effective breakthrough movement which promotes the learning of the English language, through the real practice in face-to-face conversations, the development of the four communicative skills and the interchange of personal experiences that enhance the cultural level of people sharing as friends, where the only requirement you need to become a member is to be genuinely interested in improving, advancing and getting a better handle in all the knowlwdge fields of English.

We are a new proposal far from the traditional board-and-chalk teaching methods. Instead, what we do is to provide a new tailoring approach where everybody can participate freely and spontaneously in natural environments talking about common and real-life situations. We focus on the conversation in order to strengthen the skills of listening and speaking on the go, but checking and reinforcing at the same time the reading and writing abilities as well. That’s why we offer two different scenerios in the Club:

Our Virtual School in facebook “Englishconclub” - a world of knowledege - which is our educational and cultural platform open 24/7 with more than 70 varied sections, where we daily post in English a wide variety of interesting and entertaining contents of general importance with more than 30 daily entries about different topics such as: quotations, poems, news, facts, song lyrics, music videoclips, pictures, trivia, new words, jokes, lessons, quizzes, movie  and TV scenes, riddles, idioms, karaoke, slangs, TOP 10s, phrasal verbs, graffitis, tips, biographies, proverbs, games, stories and many more. In this way everybody can share his opinions and comments, as well as chat at any time and connect with friends who want to brush up the mastering of the language, thus generating a close interaction between the club and its members.

On the other side, we have conversation meetings, with our physical group “ECC Talkers”, where everybody is welcome but only some members of the club play a more active role, meeting on a regular basis to have a lively conversation face-to-face at a different place in Antioquia. There, they talk about multiple topics in order to gain confidence sharing their english background. These meetings are guided by a coordinator who previously schedules and informs about the talking sessions to which the members must confirm their attendance. During the meetings not only the speakers will be able to practice their speaking and listening abilities but also they will have the chance to improve and enhance their range of grammar and vocabulary imput as well. Besides, they will be able to correct timely their mistakes on the spot about pronunciacion, stress or any other ligustical issue since the coordinator keeps checking their performance and facilitates the necessary feedback so that the conversation flows as if they were talking in their native language.

Furthermore, every month the club plans a special general activity (e.g a trip, walk, concert, picnic, party, etc.) to which everybody is invited, enabling the integration of the existing members and bringing new friends into the club.

We are an open space for people who enjoy making friends as they take advantage of getting together to learn more of our department and fellows while we do what we like best ... speaking English, giving a hand to the construction of a better society.
